The Janet F. Harte Public Library opened to the public and the students of Flour Bluff ISD on August 19, 2000. The new library is a combination of the Flour Bluff Branch of the Corpus Christi Public Library and the Flour Bluff High School Library. It was built through the gift of 1.84 million dollars from Janet and Ed Harte to the City of Corpus Christi for a new Flour Bluff library.
The library opened with 19,000 volumes from the High School and 24,000 volumes from the Flour Bluff Branch. These collections were combined on the shelves for all to check out and use. The library is open to the public on Monday through Thursday from 10am to 9pm, on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 6pm, and on Sunday from 2pm to 6pm. During the school year, Flour Bluff High School students have access to the library beginning at 7:45am on Monday through Friday.
Classes can be scheduled into the two research classrooms located in the 800 Wing of the high school. These classrooms are located next to the exterior doors that lead to the back doors of the Harte Library. In each classroom, the students will have study tables, 15 computers with Internet access and the on-line catalog of the public library (which has included the holdings of the Flour Bluff High School Library since 1997). Group work can be done in these research classrooms and students needing materials from the Harte Library can be sent in small groups to check them out.
