Community Involvement Flour Bluff I.S.D. encourages citizens to become involved in the planning processes of the district as well as in the day to day activities of the district.
Each campus has volunteer activities which range from reading to students to assisting teachers. The Parent Teacher Student Associations (PTSAs) on each campus work with the campus principal, and there are many booster organizations as well. Booster organizations are independent of the school but work in support of coaches or sponsors of campus extracurricular activities.
At the district level, there are several major groups which work with the superintendent in an advisory capacity.
The Educational Improvement Council (EIC) is a group of about 60 members which advises the superintendent on planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of the districts educational program. The group is composed of parents, community and business representatives, and elected teacher representatives.
The EIC functions in two subcommittees which meet monthly: the Employee Subcommittee which meets after school and deals issues of interest to employees, and the Community Subcommittee which meets at noon much like a civic club. Many important planning committees report to the EIC, e.g. the Calendar Committee, the Textbook Committee, and the Employee Benefits Committee.
The EIC holds a public meeting each year to present the Annual Performance Report and the State of the District Report.
The Citizens Advisory Committee is composed of citizens each appointed by the Board of Trustees, and they have dealt with two very important projects. After voters approved the high school bond issue, the Committee over viewed the implementation of bond funds. Also, the Committee was instrumental in developing the partnership with the City of Corpus Christi to build the Janet F. Harte Library next to the high school.
The Superintendent's Diversity Task Force is composed of citizens who work to in a proactive manner to avert hate-related incidents based on race, age, color, disability, religion, national origin or ancestry, sexual orientation or gender. Citizens and school employees work together on this committee.
ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Committee is composed of community and staff who are reviewing FBISD's compliance with federal law. The committe is also focused on changing perceptions of the disabled within the broader school community and seeking ways in which the district can provide a more welcoming environment for disabled students, parents, employees, and community members.
