FBHS KEDT Challenge Team Members

Challenge Team Defeats Ingleside
The FBHS Challenge team defeated the Ingleside Challenge Team at the KEDT-TV studio on January 16. This was a special win for teacher/coach Beth Huckabee because her husband coaches the Ingleside team. The team score was 320 points to Ingleside's 155 points. Flour Bluff 's score tied with the top score so far in the Team Challenge, which belonged to Calallen. Watch for the broadcast date of this Challenge in future editions of the Buzz. The Flour Bluff team advances to the next bracket, which will be announced at a later date.

FBJH All-Region Band Results
The Junior High All-Region Band auditions were held at Driscoll Middle School on January 12, and Flour Bluff had 30 students make the band, including a number of first and second chair finishes. Congratulations to the following students and their director Mr. David Burnett.

Soccer Team Receives Academic Award
Congratulations to the Varsity Boys' Soccer Team of 2006-2007! The National Soccer Coaches Association of American awarded the team the 2006-2007 NSCAA/Adidas Boys Team Academic Award. The team qualified by having a team GPA of 3.60 based on a 4.0 scale. The details of the award can be found on the NSCAA website. Congratulations to coach Bob Chapman and his team.

Soccer Schedule Update
The JV Girls' soccer game for Monday, January 21 has been cancelled.
The JV Boys' soccer team will play Calallen on Monday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Hornet Stadium.




John Metz speaks to the Interact Club of FBHS.
Interact Club News
John Metz, Warning Coordination Meteorologist from the National Weather Service, visited FBHS and made a special presentation to students from the Interact Club about the history of south Texas weather. In addition, he explained how any South Texan can help the National Weather Service provide more accurate information to the public by becoming an official weather spotter.


FBHS Building Memories Project
The FBHS PTSA continues to sell bricks for the "Wall of Honor" at Flour Bluff High School. The bricks are 7 1/2" x 3 l/2" and they are mounted permanently in the main hall at the high school.

The "Building Memories Project" benefits students of FBHS in many ways including scholarships. The bricks sell for $40 and $60. Order forms are available at the Hornet Spirit Shop. For more information contact Laura Dietz at 850-8628.



Swim Team Wins Meet
Congratulations to the FBHS men's and women's Swim Team as they claimed first place at the Coastal Bend Swimming & Diving Invitation on January 12. The team is preparing for District competition which, will be January 26 at the CCISD Natatorium.


NJROTC Update
The FBHS NJROTC Armed Drill Team is scheduled to perform at half time at the Men's Islander game on Saturday, January 19 at 7:00 p.m. The Unarmed Team will do likewise for the Women's Islander game on Saturday, February 9 at 7:00 p.m. Both games are scheduled at the American Bank Center Arena.


Chess Club Update
Flour Bluff Primary School will host the 2008 Coastal Bend Primary/Elementary Championship Chess Tournament on Saturday, January 26. The tournament will be held in the Primary/Elementary cafeteria from 9:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. It is a five round U.S. Chess Federation-rated tournament. The cost is $10, and players must be members of the U.S. Chess Federation. Approximately ten schools are planning on attending including public and private schools.

There will also be a five round rated tournament the same time for players of any age for $5, without any membership fee required. More information is available on the Optimist Coastal Bend Chess Federation website, or you can contact Kenneth Muir at 985-1889.
