| Go Red Campaign |
The Go Red for Women campaign was a huge success at Flour Bluff I.S.D. Teachers, staff and students worked as teams to make their campus the "Reddest of the Red" on February 8. The Junior High and the Elementary Schools prevailed as winners in the Reddest of the Red. They will receive a red velvet cake on Valentine's Day for their efforts. The following groups received Honorable Mention and will receive cupcakes at their campus also: Early Childhood Center, Primary School, Intermediate School and Central Office.

| Swim Team Advances to State |
The Hornet boys' and girls' swim team captured the Region VIII-4A Swimming and Diving Championships on February 8-9. Ten athletes advance to the State Meet on February 22-23 held at the University of Texas Swim Center in Austin, Texas. Members advancing are Andrew Acker, Chris Prewitt, Kevin Wilson, Andrew Willias, Ryan Sanders, Taylor Orner, Haley Land, Madelyn Vadney, Taneesa Morris, and Cecilia Mestas-Nunez. Coach Scott Bucy was also named as Region VIII-4A Swim Coach of the Year. Congratulations to the entire team! |

| FBHS Students Advance to State |
Several students from FBHS HOSA (Health Occupation Science Association) class qualified for the State competition to be held in Austin on April 8-10, 2008. Cassy Rinehart, placed 1st in Researched Persuasive Speaking at the Region 7 Spring Leadership Conference held at Del Mar College. She joins Julia Cruz-Acedo and Michael Fisher, who qualified in November on the online test for the Kaiser Permanente Health Care Issue Exam.
The Cross-Examination Debate team of Teysha Dougherty and Nicole Raney placed 1st at the district tournament and won all five rounds. They will now advance to the state meet to be held at the University of Texas on March 14-15, 2008.

| FBJH Choir |
The Flour Bluff Junior High Choir participated in the UIL Solo and Ensemble contest at Texas A&M University-Kingsville on February 19. Following are the results from the competition:
Class 2 Solo: Rated 1 (superior rating) Terra Galindo, Madeline McDonel, Erin Posey, Carissa Reyes, and Rachelle Ross. Rated 2 (excellent rating) Aliah Veith. Aliah, Rachelle and Carissa's solos were all in Italian.
Class 3 Solo: Rated 1 (superior rating) Jennifer Chapman, Rebecca Basile, Janie Corbitt, Shelby East, Hilari Martin, Bethany Watson, L.J. Manasan, Josiah Pici, and Frank Weber. Rated 2 (excellent rating) Kassandra Gaxiola, Tracey Orand, Jessica Robles, and Eric Nagel.

| Harte Library Poster Contest |
The Harte Library invites students of FBISD to participate in a poster contest to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the dedication of the Padre Island National Seashore. Deadline to submit posters is March 13, 2008. Winners may choose gift certificates from Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Waldenbooks, Hobby Lobby or Michaels Arts & Crafts and are valued from $10 to $100. Contest rules and entry forms are available at all FBISD libraries and the Harte Library.

| 2008 Relay for Life |
The Flour Bluff/NAS/Padre Island Relay for Life kick-off was held at the high school cafetorium on February 12. Approximately 200 relayers attended, and 20 teams signed up that night, putting the total so far at 40 teams. The Relay is scheduled for April 18 at Hornet Stadium from 6 p.m. - 6 a.m. The committee is actively recruiting teams, survivors, and sponsors. Relay for Life is sponsored by the American Cancer Society. This is FBISD's third year to host the event. For more information call 694-9034.
