grade class received some extra help in preparing for the TAKS Math test. Joy Beard's high school Textile and Apparel class came up with a FCCLA project that involved measuring and sewing to help students get an extra edge on the TAKS test.

Measuring is a key area on the TAKS Math test and students sometime have difficulty with using rulers and measurement. Therefore, the high school students came up with a project that would have the elementary students use a ruler to measure a square of fabric and then sew the squares together to make a pillow. The lesson on area and measurement proved to be a fun and useful tool for the students.

the JH Academy English class invited the kindergarten class of Christy Zamora to learn about our founding fathers and the American Revolution by taking part in a joint writing venture. The kindergarten class became an extension of the existing FBJH Junto group and carried on the tradition of Ben Franklin's original Junto, studying history and literature and taking part in community service projects. The Academy English students included the kindergartners in a writing project where they created, wrote, and illustrated books that they are entering in the Scholastic Kids Are Authors contest. They held a publishing party to celebrate the completion of the books. All kindergartners received copies of their own books printed in black and white so they can use them as coloring books. The originals have been sent to Scholastic. Maybe some of our Flour Bluff budding authors will be published by summer!
