| HEB Excellence in Education Awards |
Kim Rezk and Melissa Mott were named as finalists in the HEB Excellence in Education Awards for 2008. Both received a $1,000 check for themselves and one for their campus. Kim, a FBHS teacher, was recognized in the Rising Star category and Melissa, an FB Intermediate teacher, was recognized in the Leadership Elementary category.
As finalists, they are now invited to compete on a state-wide level for larger cash prizes against four other educators representing other Texas regions in their respective categories. Both Rezk and Mott were selected as part of a eight-member group in the Gulf Coast Region to represent Texas education which stood out from 1,000 state-wide applicants. HEB will host a celebratory dinner in Houston on May 4 where six winning teachers, one elementary and one secondary in each category, will be named as state winners.

| Flour Bluff Soccer Team Advances to Quarterfinals |
The Hornet Girls' Soccer team defeated Mission Veterans Memorial 4-1 to advance to the quarterfinals in the District 30-4A championship. The Hornets are undefeated in the district with a record of 23-2-1 overall. They will play Pleasanton in Beeville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28. GO HORNETS!

| Education Foundation Awards $9,500 in Grants |
The Flour Bluff ISD Foundation for Educational Excellence, Inc., surprised five teachers and two campuses at Flour Bluff ISD on Tuesday, March 25, when they awarded $9,500 in teacher and campus grants.
Teacher Grants
Cliff Strain, Intermediate School (Using GPS to Find Your Way to a Better Path) was awarded $1,400 for GPS devices to be used by students to navigate in the wetlands and develop mapping skills. Studying the community with hand held technology devices will motivate students to develop an appreciation for the environment.
Campus Grants
Flour Bluff Elementary School (Kristie Winthrope) ( Literature Circles) was awarded $4,600 where small groups of students will discuss specific novels and allow them to develop the critical thinking skills necessary to have an in-depth study to interpret an author’s work.
Flour Bluff Primary School (Nancy Tyler and Morele Blaylock) (Rock and Read) was awarded $2,000 to create a musical literacy station to allow students to use lyrics of songs to support word study strategies, comprehension strategies, visualization strategies and fluency.
Flour Bluff High School (Forensic Science: Modern Laboratory Investigations) in the amount of $1,500 for Forensic Science materials and strategies to be used to motivate science students to solve practical real life problems.

| 40th Anniversary of Padre Island National Seashore |
The Friends of Corpus Christi Public Libraries and the Padre Island National Seashore will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the dedication of the Padre Island National Seashore during the month of April. Many activities are planned, including an art exhibit, a Kemp's Ridley sea turtle recovery presentation, children's events, poster contest, guest speakers, and many other activities. | FB NJROTC Send-off |
FBISD will host a send-off for the FBHS NJROTC as they depart for Pensacola, Florida to compete at the Navy Nationals Championship on Wednesday, April 2, at 6:00 p.m. in the high school cafetorium. The cadets recently were named state champions, advancing them to the national competition April 4-5. The public is invited to attend the send-off.

| Winter Sports Banquet |
The Flour Bluff Athletic Booster Club will host a winter sports banquet recognizing high school varsity student athletes participating in basketball, swimming and soccer on Monday, April 7, 2008. The banquet will be held at Crystal Reception Hall beginning at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now in the athletic office.

| High School Students Excel |
FBHS placed 4th at the Texas Math Science Coaches' Association (TMSCA) State Meet on March 15, 2008. The team placed 3rd in Number Sense, 4th in Mathematics and Science, and 5th in Calculator. Individual results were as follows:
Anthony Pabillano - Top Gun award for 11th grade, 1st in Mathematics and Calculator, 2nd in Number Sense and 6th in Science; Dylan Keyes - 2nd in 10th grade competition, 2nd in Mathematics, 4th in Science, 5th in Number Sense, and 9th in Calculator; Austin Smith - 4th in 10th grade competition, 3rd in Number Sense, 5th in Mathematics and 6th in Calculator; Brandon Earwood - 7th in Science; Derek Fitzgerald - 8th in Calculator; and Angelica Montano - 8th in Number Sense.
UIL District Competition - Social Studies Team - 3rd place. Team members were Chelsea Brown, Jacob Huber and Emily Robinson. Chelsea placed 1st with a near perfect score of 98 and will advance to the regional competition in April.
