FBJH TFA Tournament
On October 25th, FBJH students Hannah Martinez (8th grade), Kennedy Toungate (7th grade), Mykaela Griffin (7th grade) and Taylor Jessop (7th grade) competed at the Gregory-Portland High School TFA meet. They were the only junior high students competing at this high school-level competition. Advancing to the final round and placing were Kennedy Toungate, 7th place in Prose Interpretation, and Hannah Martinez, 6th place in Poetry Interpretation. Congratulations to these students and their sponsor, Elena Gomez.

Homecoming Parade
The 2008 Homecoming Parade was a huge success! There were 56
registered entries and 3 additional entries who joined in that evening, making this the biggest parade yet. After the parade, the students and community joined together for the burning of the FB at Hornet Stadium. Awards were given out for the best entries in the parade. Taking first place was Hornet Volleyball (top photo), second place went to the Early Childhood Center (center photo), and third place went to FB Tennis (bottom photo).

Homecoming festivities will conclude this week-end with the football game at 7:30 p.m. in Hornet Stadium and the homecoming dance on Saturday, November 1, at 8:00 p.m.



Chess Team Results
Congratulations to the following students who placed at the Chula Vista Chess Tournament on October 18.

Primary (K-1) Flour Bluff -1st place.
Alex Wallett - 1st place; Ammarie Wallett tied for 2nd place; Trace Price - 4th place and Marcus Bradshaw - medal.

Elementary (4-6) Flour Bluff - 2nd place
Natanee Wallett - 1st; Andrew Perez tied for 2nd place; Sarah Muir - 10th place and Jaymes DeLaGarza -15th place.



Congratulations to the 8th Grade Mathcounts team, which took 3rd place at the San Antonio Junior High Mathcounts Meet. Standing left-right: Steven Kyle, Tristan Guadajarro, Sponsor Joe Hay, SoHee Park, and Ian Williams.

Campus Achievements
Congratulations to the FBHS Marching Band! They received a Superior Rating of "1" at the UIL Marching Contest held in Alice on October 18. GO BAND GO!

TEA (Texas Education Agency) has released its Gold Performance Acknowledgements and Accountability Ratings for schools. Congratulations to the following campuses on their accomplishments.

Commended Social Studies - High School & Junior High
Commended Reading - Junior High & Intermediate
Commended Math - Intermediate
Commended Writing - Junior High
Commended Science - Intermediate
Texas Success Initiative ELA - High School
Comparable Improvement in Reading - Intermediate
Rated as Recognized Campuses were Primary, Elementary and Intermediate.

Veterans Appreciation Day
The Flour Bluff Junior High ROTC will hold its first annual Veterans Appreciation Ice Cream Social on Thursday, November 13 from 4-5:00 p.m. in the Junior High Cafeteria. Blue Bell Creameries, L.P. will help sponsor this wonderful event honoring our veterans in our community and schools. Call Mrs. Fuller at 694-9396 for more information.
