Thanksgiving Holidays

Students, parents and faculty enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving Feast at the FBISD school cafeterias during the week of November 12-16. Thanks to the Nutrition department staff, Aramark and the administrative team of FBISD, over 4,600 Thanksgiving lunches were served.

Students and staff will celebrate the Thanksgiving holidays November 21-23. Classes will resume on Monday, November 26.

Elementary Food Drive
The Flour Bluff Elementary School will hold a non-perishable food drive to provide families in our community Christmas dinner. They will be collecting food in the school library beginning Monday, November 26 through Friday, December 14. On December 15, the FB Elementary Student Council and Jazzy Bees will be collecting food in the Elementary school parking lot from 9 a.m. - 12 noon.


Volleyball Signing
Flour Bluff High School Senior Holly Watson will sign a letter of intent to play volleyball with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday, November 19 @ 4:15 p.m. in the high school teaching theater. Holly will receive a full four-year scholarship. Congratulations, Holly!


Teen Book Club
Teens are invited to attend a book club discussion of the young adult novel, Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer, on Monday, December 3 at 4:00 p.m. at the Janet F. Harte Library. Twilight is a story about a 17 year-old girl's infatuation with Edward, an outsider she discovers is a vampire, the sense of danger inherent in their love, and Edward's inner struggle. This book is considered one of the best in contemporary young adult fiction, chock full of action, suspense and romance. You can reserve your copy by calling the Harte Library at 937-6569.


United Way Campaign
The numbers are in! The Flour Bluff ISD United Way campaign surpassed its goal of $20,265 by raising $27,559.50! Many thanks and appreciation to all those who pledged and gave a one time donation. Congratulations to the ECC, Primary, Elementary, Intermediate, Junior High, High School (including Athletics, Performing Arts, SDGC, ACE and UPHS), Central Office (including IT and PIO), Special Education, and Maintenance department for meeting or exceeding their goal. The Primary School and Special Education Department had 100% participation. The total district participation increased by 3%.

Thank you Bryan Krnavek for heading up the United Way Campaign for the district.


Employee Wellness Turkey Trot
Approximately 54 employees and a few spouses participated in the November walk-run sponsored by the Employee Wellness Program. The weather cooperated with a crisp morning for the 2.5 mile walk and 3.5 mile run for participants. Results were as follows:

Julia Williams (Elementary) 3rd; Tina Rogers (Junior High) 2nd; and Jessica Layton (Primary) 1st


Chess Club Results
Several FBISD students competed at the "Kingsville Shootout" chess tournament held November 10. Flour Bluff won first place in both Primary and Elementary team divisions.

Primary Division (grades 1-3): Sarah Muir (2nd), Alex Wallett (4th), Andrew Shaw (6th), Ryan Breen (7th), Ammarie Wallett (8th), Catherine Shaw (9th), Ryan Schultz (10th), and Elizabeth Shaw (11th). Elementary Division (4th grade): Andrew Perez (1st), Natanee Wallett (2nd), and Cameron Brower (3rd).

Club sponsors are Liz Lee and Rebecca Sutton. Parent volunteer/coach is Mr. Ken Muir.



NJROTC Annual Inspection
The Flour Bluff NJROTC conducted its Annual Military Inspection on November 14 at Hornet Stadium. Commanders Leupold, Holt and Pagel from NAS Corpus Christi inspected the cadets and awarded twenty-four Circle 10 pins (perfect inspection). Those cadets were: Sarah Carmony, Alandrei Dennis, Chyraa Groen, David Guillen, Jonathan Hada, Matthew Horn, Joel Naquil, Crystal Nwosu, Ian Shuttlesworth, Gabriel Solis, Jaclyn Stewart, Paul Borchardt, Cody Browning, Jackie Cornett, Claudia De Leon, Devin Galindo, Rebecca Horn, Terry Reed, Cliff Spoon, Justin Browning, Bailee Bryant, Kyle Jones, Harrington Morrison, and Richard Weakley. The Honor Platoon was Alpha 1 and is commanded by Cadet Lieutenant Junior Grade Sarah Carmony.


Football Playoff Information
The Flour Bluff Hornets defeated Weslaco East (31-27) in the Class 4-A Bi-District game on Friday, November 16. The Hornets will now face the Gregory Portland Wildcats in the Class 4-A Area play-off game on Saturday, November 24, at Buc Stadium. Kick-off is 7:00 p.m. Tickets sales will be first-come first-serve as follows:

Monday, November 19 - 1:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, November 20 - 7:00 a.m. - noon & 1:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, November 21 - 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. & 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Friday, November 23 - 7:00 - 10:00 a.m.

Ticket prices will be $6 (reserved), $5 (general admission) and $3 (students). GO HORNETS!!!
