Go Red Bracelet Winners

Congratulations to our Go Red for Women Brighton bracelet winners! Kathy Blake guessed the number of candies in the jar exactly - 241! Dr. Robert Williams and Christian Ehardt, from Coastal Orthopedics, presented the winners with their bracelets on Wednesday, February 14. Dr. Williams has sponsored the Brighton Go Red fundraiser at Flour Bluff I.S.D. for the last several years.



JH Mathcounts Wins Regional Meet
The Flour Bluff Junior High Mathcounts team won their 23rd consecutive Regional Mathcounts tournament on February 10, 2007. The team will now advance to the state tournament to be held in Austin on March 24, 2007. Congratulations to the following team members: Cameron McIntyre (1st), Kellie Cyrus (2nd), Matt Gilmore (3rd), David Acker (5th), Brandon Mendiola (7th), Robert Walker (8th), Max Caruso (12th), Nathan Portwood (19th), and sponsor Joe Hay.


Swimmers Win at State Meet
Congratulations to our Flour Bluff Hornets swimming and diving team for their accomplishments at the State Tournament in Austin on February 17. Gabriela Soza finished in 1st place in the 50 yard freestyle bringing home the gold medal. Errond Williams finished in 2nd place in the 50 yard freestyle bringing home the silver medal. Other results include: Taylor Orner finished 9th in the one-meter diving; Gabriela Soza finished 4th in 100 yard freestyle; girls team (Gabriela Soza, Mary Elizabeth Lewis, Taneesa Morris and Madelyn Vadney) finished 7th in 200 medley relay; and boys team (Andrew Acker, Christopher Prewit, Hendrick Tank and Errond Williams) finished 10th in the 200 freestyle relay.

Choir Students Perform at State
Fernando Fernandez, Choir Director for FBHS, is proud to announce that three FBHS students performed at the TMEA All-State Choir in Austin on February 17. Congratulations to Lauren Rader (Treble Choir), Robby Black (Tenor/Bass) and Erin Pilcher (Mixed Choir). This is the second year in a row for these students to be named to the TMEA All-State Choir.


NJROTC Wins 13th Consecutive State Championship
For the 13th consecutive year, Flour Bluff NJROTC qualified for the NJROTC State Championship Tournament, and for the 13th consecutive year, Flour Bluff NJROTC came home with the Navy State Championship title. Over 650 competitors, comprising 16 teams from as far away as El Paso, Dallas, the Rio Grande Valley and Houston, converged at Texas A&M University in College Station on February 16-17 for the two day tournament. Team results were: 1st - Academic Team; 1st Personnel Inspection; 1st Overall Drill; 1st Armed Regulation Drill; 2nd Exhibition Drill; 2nd Unarmed Regulation Drill; 1st Unarmed Exhibition Drill; 1st Color Guard; 2nd Overall Athletics, and 1st Overall State Championship. Also advancing to the Navy National Championship in Pensacola, Florida is Bush High School (Houston) and Aransas Pass High School.

In addition to team medals, several cadets won individual medals: Gus Hernandez (academics and push-ups), Bill Joyce (academic), Jeremiah Widder (push-ups and sit-ups), Cassandra Leal (push-ups and sit-ups), Daniel Samuelson (armed drill team commander) and Leslie Cox (unarmed drill team commander).
