For the 13th consecutive year, Flour Bluff NJROTC qualified for the NJROTC State Championship Tournament, and for the 13th consecutive year, Flour Bluff NJROTC came home with the Navy State Championship title. Over 650 competitors, comprising 16 teams from as far away as El Paso, Dallas, the Rio Grande Valley and Houston, converged at Texas A&M University in College Station on February 16-17 for the two day tournament. Team results were: 1st - Academic Team; 1st Personnel Inspection; 1st Overall Drill; 1st Armed Regulation Drill; 2nd Exhibition Drill; 2nd Unarmed Regulation Drill; 1st Unarmed Exhibition Drill; 1st Color Guard; 2nd Overall Athletics, and 1st Overall State Championship. Also advancing to the Navy National Championship in Pensacola, Florida is Bush High School (Houston) and Aransas Pass High School.
In addition to team medals, several cadets won individual medals: Gus Hernandez (academics and push-ups), Bill Joyce (academic), Jeremiah Widder (push-ups and sit-ups), Cassandra Leal (push-ups and sit-ups), Daniel Samuelson (armed drill team commander) and Leslie Cox (unarmed drill team commander).
