| Big Event Nets $29,600 |
The Flour Bluff ISD Foundation for Educational Excellence, Inc., raised $29,600 at their annual fundraiser held March 24, 2007. Approximately two hundred people gathered at the Solomon Ortiz Center for an evening that included a live art auction, a silent auction, food, and jazz music provided by Cross Tide Jazz Ensemble. Patrons were invited to view the art work prior to opening bids, which started at 7:30 p.m. Over 100 pieces of art work were on display from artist such as Buckels, Matisse, Picasso, Chagall and Dali, just to name a few.
Patrons were also invited to participate in a silent auction. Over 50 items were available to bid on including fishing trips, week-end getaways, restaurant coupons, jewelry, games of golf, boxed seats at a Hooks game, and an autographed football by Jim Otto.
The Foundation is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to promote quality education by establishing, supporting and enhancing programs not otherwise funded by the Flour Bluff Independent School District.
We greatly appreciate the community members who serve on the foundation board and serve as committee members for assisting with this great event. Those individuals are: Glenn Lyons, Sandford Perry, John Michael, Treva Bedwell, Melanie Hambrick, Lacy Harrelson, Pam Morgan, Vivi See, Miles Graham, Jackie Thurston, Dawn Howard, Molly Clark, Barbara Agan, Rae-Anne Carlisle, Marsha Burkett, Frank Brogan, Julie Carbajal, Alicia Needham and Lynn Kaylor.

| Flour Bluff Sweeps UIL District Competition |
Flour Bluff I.S.D. hosted the District 4-A UIL competition on March 23 & 24 for grades 3-8. Flour Bluff won sweepstakes in grades 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Grade 7 and 8 will not have final results until after the one act play competition, which is scheduled for March 30.
The high school one act play won their competition in Zone A and in district and will now advance to the area competition on April 7 at Gregory Portland High School. The other academic high school teams will compete in UIL events on March 30-31. A complete listing of student results will be posted on the district website at the end of the competitions and will also be available on the UIL website.

| Girls Soccer Coach Receives Recognition |
Congratulations to Mario Lopez, Hornet Girls' Soccer Coach for being named District 4-A Girls Soccer Coach of the Year. The Hornet Girls' Soccer team finished the season as Area Finalist with a district record of 12 wins - 1 loss - 3 ties. CONGRATULATIONS to the Girls' Soccer team and Coach Lopez.

| High School Student Council Receives Honors |
|
Congratulations to the Flour Bluff High School Student Council. At the District X Texas Association of Student Councils Convention, FBHS received program awards for: Outstanding Student Council, Drug Alcohol Safety and Health, Energy and Environment, Pride and Patriotism, and Community Service. The council went above and beyond the minimum standards set by the TASC and will serve in the position of Vice President for next year. Congratulations to sponsor Robert Steagall and his student council members: Roxie Weems - President, Anna Kimmel - Vice President, Jordyn Campbell - Secretary, Jake Arredondo - Treasurer, Kari Sassenrath - Historian, and members Mikalea Murry, Ashley Dyckman, Hosanna Caraballo, Gretchen Stein, Brittney Zimmerman, Katy Gonzales, Seth Dye, Kathleen Paschal, Sarah Pressley, Kim Sassenrath, Taneesa Morris and Kindall Stephens.

| High School TMSCA Results |
|
Flour Bluff High School won second place at the state TMSCA (Texas Math and Science Coaches Association) competition. The Number Sense and Mathematics teams won 1st place, the Calculator team won 2nd and the Science team won 5th place. Student results were: Andrew Acker - 1st Number Sense, 1st Calculator, 5th Science, 1st Mathematics and Top Gun Award; Daniel Proske - 10th Mathematics; Anthony Pabillano - 1st Number Sense, 2nd Calculator, 2nd Science, 1st Mathematics and Top Gun Award; Nathan Rubey - 10th Number Sense and 9th Mathematics; Emi Kyle - 7th Number Sense, 10th Calculator; Dylan Keyes - 8th Number Sense, 9th Calculator, 4th Science, 2nd Mathematics and Top Gun Award; Ellie Gillum - 2nd Number Sense and 9th Mathematics; Jake Alexander - 7th Number Sense, 7th Calculator and 6th Mathematics; and Austin Smith - 2nd Number Sense, 6th Calculator and 3rd Mathematics. The TMSCA sponsor is Mr. David Rubac. Congratulations to the team!

| FBHS Pays Tribute to Former Student |
Flour Bluff High School graduate and former athlete John Paul Barta will be honored at a special ceremony on Tuesday, April 3, at the Flour Bluff Baseball Complex. Hornet baseball coach Ron Weikum and current team members will present Barta's baseball jersey to his family as they retire his number. John Paul was an outstanding student and athlete. He earned several honors such as most valuable player, all state and all-metro baseball player, Texas High School All Star and all-South Texas football player during his four years at Flour Bluff High School.
John Paul died on December 23, 2006, while serving in Iraq. John Paul graduated from FBHS in 2000 and attended Wharton County Junior College before enlisting in the Army in 2004.
The ceremony will take place at 6:45 p.m. at the Hornet Baseball Complex. The community is invited to attend.

| UIL Concert/Sightreading Contest Results |
|
The Flour Bluff Junior High bands performed at the UIL Concert/Sightreading contest held at Flour Bluff I.S.D. on March 27-28, 2007. Results were as follows: the Concert Band received a Division 2 rating on stage and a Division 1 rating in sightreading; the Symphonic Band received a Division 1 rating for both stage and sightreading and earned a Sweepstakes award trophy; the Honors Band received a Division 1 rating on stage and a Division 2 rating in sightreading. All three bands had the top ratings of any band in their respective classification. Congratulations to the band members and their director Mr. David Burnett.
