2008 Navy National Champions
Flour Bluff High School NJROTC at the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, Florida, where the 2008 Navy National Championship awards ceremony was held.

| NJROTC Regains Title |
Flour Bluff High School NJROTC reclaimed their title as Navy National Champions in Pensacola, Florida, on April 5, 2008. The cadets competed against 24 schools from across the country in drills, inspection, academics and color guard.
The team awards were as follows: Armed Basic (boys) - 3rd place; Unarmed Basic (girls) -1st place; Armed Exhibition (boys) - 1st; Unarmed Exhibition (girls) - 5th; Inspection - 2nd; Academics - 2nd; and Color Guard - 4th. They received 1st place overall drill.
Individual results were as follows: Jaclynn Stewart - 10th place in sit-ups; Becca Horn - 3rd place in push-ups, and Tyler Warren - 8th place in academics. The team is preparing to go to Daytona Beach, Florida where they will compete at the All-Service Grand National Championship May 3-4.

| High School Art on Display |
Alyssa Black won first place and $300 in the 2008 International Sister Cities Young Artists' Competition. Jessica Barker was awarded second place and $200. Both girls and their teacher Charlotte Walker were honored at an awards reception at the Art Center on April 7. Their work will be on display through April 30 at the Art Center of Corpus Christi.

| High School Skills USA Competition Results |
Flour Bluff High School participated in the Skills USA State Competition held in Corpus Christi on April 3-4 at the American Bank Center. Colin Sanders received 1st place in Computer Programming and will now advance to the National competition in Kansas City, Missouri, on June 22-27. In addition to his first place, Colin also received a $1,500 per semester scholarship from Westwood College. Also placing at the state level were: Anthony Cruz - 2nd place Firefighting; David Melin - 3rd place Firefighting; and Scott Hurta - 4th place Cisco Internetworking. The teams computer project also received five blue ribbons and a superior project trophy. Students involved in this project were: Lyle Green (Team Captain), Adrianna Resendez, Kyle Kalinec, Carlos DeLeon, and Marlyna Cunningham.

| Education Foundation Hosts Big Event |
The Flour Bluff I.S.D. Foundation for Educational Excellence, Inc., announces their annual Big Event, "Under the Stars," which will be held May 17 at the Bluff Breeze Ranch in Flour Bluff. A night of activity includes dinner (Mac's Barbecue), dancing (Five Card Draw), and a silent and live auction. Tickets are $100 a person and reserved tables start at $1,000. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation whose mission is to promote quality education by establishing, supporting and enhancing programs not otherwise funded by the Flour Bluff I.S.D. | FBJH Student Accolades |
Darrow Brunkenhoefer, FBJH 8th grader, won the 2007-2008 DAR essay contest. The topic was Espionage during the Revolutionary War. She also received a savings bond for her efforts.
FBJH One-Act Play, The Curious Savage, competed at the District One-Act Play contest and was awarded 1st place. Individual awards went to: Alyson Gonzales - Stage Manager/Assistant Director was named to the Honor Crew; Honorable Mention All Star Cast were Dane Billman, Aaron Cooper and Christina Sheehan. All Star Cast members were Beighly Brintnall, Hailey Kimball, and Nathaniel Moore. Crystal Costadoni was named District's Best Actress.

| Flour Bluff/NAS/Padre Island Relay for Life |
Over 70 teams and 100 cancer survivors have registered for the 3rd Annual FB/NAS/PI Relay for Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The event starts at 6:00 p.m. at Hornet Stadium with the Survivors and Caregivers Lap. Teams will camp out all night and walk the track raising money for cancer until 6:00 a.m. Saturday, April 19. | FBISD Hosts Job Fair |
Flour Bluff ISD will host its 5th annual Job Fair on Saturday, April 12, from 9-12 noon at the Junior High School. Applicants can apply for teaching, coaching, classroom aides, technology, office positions, bus drivers, maintenance, custodians, and food service positions. Call the personnel office for more information.

| Choir Update |
The FBHS Varsity Treble and Mixed Choirs participated in UIL Concert and Sight Reading contest. The Treble Choir scored a "2" in concert and sight reading and the Mixed Choir brought home a Sweepstakes award, receiving a "1" in concert and sight reading.
The FBJH Concert Choir scored an average rating in sight reading and "1" in concert. Congratulations to both of these groups.

| Harte Library Poster Contest |
The Janet F. Harte Public Library is pleased to announce the winners of the Padre Island National Seashore Poster Contest. There will be an awards reception at the library on April 19 with guest speaker, Joe Escoto, Superintendent of the Padre Island National Seashore. The semifinal Challenge Team match against Carroll High School will be shown on KEDT-TV Monday, April 14, at 7:00 p.m. and repeated on Saturday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m.
