Coastal Bend Science Fair Winners
Congratulations to the following FBISD students who won this past week-end in the Coastal Bend Science Fair. Kelsey Strender (1st grade) "Did You Wash Your Hands?" placed 2nd in Physical Science category and Best of Grade; Ameila Mixon (2nd grade) "Water Egg-spert" placed 1st in Earth Science category and 1st place in Best of Grade; Jake Warren (6th grade) "Septic Sea Life" placed 2nd in Life Science category and 3rd in Best of Grade; Christina Sheehan (6th grade) "Do You Recall?" won the Texas A&M University School of Nursing & Health Sciences award.


Outstanding Student Council
The Flour Bluff High School Student Council received the TASC (Texas Association of Student Council) Conference Sweepstakes award for their many programs they sponsored during the school year. They received recognition and separate awards for Outstanding Student Council, Outstanding Energy and Environment, Outstanding D.A.S.H. (drugs, alcohol, safety and health) Program and Outstanding Pride and Patriotism. Mr. Robert Steagall, student council sponsor was selected as one of the NASC (National Association of Student Councils) presenters in Philadelphia this summer. Student Council officers are Roxie Weems, president, Jon Titzell, vice-president, Anna Kimmel, secretary, Aaron Kimmel, parliamentarian and Dell Pollard, historian.


SKILLS-USA
George Kunkle, FBHS senior has advanced to the Nationals SKILLS-USA competition to be held in Kansas City, Missouri in June. This is the first time Flour Bluff High School has had a representative at the National level. George is part of the CISCO and Computer Maintenance class which he placed 1st in Telecommunications. Also participating and earning awards were: Firefighting - 2nd place Rick Cruz, 4th place David Melin; Internetworking - 3rd place Dallas Dees; Technical Math - 3rd place Bobby Presnell; Programing - 4th place Brian Venable; Web Page Design - 4th place RyeLee Stewart; Computer Maintenance Technical - 6th place Edward Hatch; Internetworking Technical Exam - 7th place Chris Donnawell; and Advertising Design - 8th place Loic Verheyan. Placing in Computer Mod Contest - Blue Ribbon for Superior Project: Marshall Tavares, Roger Locklear and Evan Varney; Red Ribbon for Excellent Project: Chris Donnawell and Zach Weeden. Congratulations to Mr. Kenneth Stewart, sponsor , and his students for representing Flour Bluff I.S.D.


Regional Tennis Results
Alysse Davis and Rachel Proske are state bound May 8-9 at Lakeway, Texas (located outside Austin) to compete in the Spring Tennis State Championships. Making a great showing at the Regional tournament were Glenn Griffin - 3rd place boys singles; Adam Lakhani and Aidan DeLeon - 3rd place boys doubles; and Clayton Turcotte and Neal Tjoin-A-Joe - 4th place boys doubles. Congratulations Coach Bonds and Parsley, and good luck at State!


Regional Track Results
The Flour Bluff Hornets made a great showing at the Regional Track meet in San Antonio April 28-29. The boys 200 meter team finished 4th place. Congratulations to Ryan Dombroski, Darryn Penn, Andre McCorkle, Octavio Flores, and alternate Josh Brunemeier. On the girls side, Abby Greenwell finished 4th - 100 hurdles, 3rd - 300 hurdles and 7th - triple jump. Terrah  Austin finished in 4th place in triple jump and 7th in the 400m run. Congratulations to these fine athletes and their coaches Russell Lee and Allen Hovda.


NJROTC Competes at the All Service Grand Nationals
Flour Bluff High School NJROTC will travel to Daytona, Florida on May 4-7 to compete in the All Service Grand National Championship. The Seahornets have claimed victory at this competition the last three years and hope to make this number four. The NJROTC will also be featured on the KIII-TV Morning Show on Wednesday, May 5 prior to their departure. Good luck Seahornets!


Junior High Swim Team
The FBJH swim team has much to celebrate after returning from the Middle School State Invitational on April 29th. Nine individuals placed in the top eight in sixteen events. The 7th grade Girls placed 7th in State and the 7th grade Boys placed 4th in State. Individual awards went to: Michael Brusoski , Marica Chabarria, Cory Elyasevich, Josh Goldworthy, Haley Land, Chris Prewit, Deann Rivera, Brittany Tennison and Grant Trojanowski. The 7th grade Girls 200 Medley Relay placed 4th, Girls 200 Free Relay placed 5th, and the Boys 200 Free Relay placed 3rd.


Feature Twirler
Kristen Tate, FBHS Marching Band feature twirler will continue her twirling skills on the football field of University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). Kristen was interviewed and completed tryouts last week at UM. She will receive a $4,000 tuition scholarship and a $600 band scholarship.


Flour Bluff/NAS/Padre Island Relay for Life
The inaugural event raised over $66,000 for the local American Cancer Society. Fifty-two teams, and over 1,000 people participated in the 12-hour relay at Hornet Stadium. Special awards at the event went to: JZ Moon Walkers, FB Intermediate finished as the top team in donations raising over $4,000; FBHS HOSA team Lifeguards won Best Theme; Shipwreck Fighting for Survival won Best campsite; and Padre Island Presbyterian (PIPS) won most spirited. Over 3,000 luminaries in memory and honor of cancer patients were sold and placed around the track . Lisa Robertson, American Cancer Society staff member commented this was the best "new" relay she had ever seen and was really impressed with the way the community and schools embraced this event.
