| Coastal Bend Science Fair Winners |
|
Flour Bluff I.S.D. was well represented at the Coastal Bend Science Fair held on April 28-29 at Texas A&M-CC with 24 students from grades 1-8 participating. Thirty six school districts participated with over 700 projects submitted. FBISD results were: Wesley Reitz (6th grade) - 1st place in Engineering/Physical Science (Tennis Ball Temperature) and 4th place overall; Natenee Wallett (3rd grade) - 3rd place in Earth Science (What Goes Up Must Come Down); Ryan Stanley (4th grade) - 3rd place in Physical Science (Good Ball vs Bad Ball); Andrew Jones - Agricultural Special Award (Phascinating Phacts about pH); Nathaniel Moore (7th grade) - 1st place Earth Science (H20 around the USA); and Joel Winthrop (7th grade) - 2nd place in Physical Science (Propane Power)

| Science Olympiad |
The Flour Bluff Junior High Science Olympiad team competed at the State Science Olympiad held at Texas A&M College Station on April 28-29, 2007. Fifteen members from the junior high team competed in twenty three events, all collegiate level and designed by the A&M professors. The following students placed in the top ten:
Science Word - Joshua Strunk & Cameron McIntyre - 5th place
Disease Detectives - Morgan Thomas & Destini Garcia - 7th place
Ecology - Alexandria Marr & Ashley Rock - 3rd place
Oceanography - Ashley Rock and Alexandria Marr - 4th place
Road Scholar - Joshua Strunk & Kimberly Kasperitis - 9th place
Metric Mastery - Anthony Acebo & Christian Harper - 8th place
Congratulations to these future scientists and their sponsor Mrs. Brenda Killen.

| FBHS Academic Octathlon |
|
Congratulations to Ms. Melissa Botello, FBHS Octathlon sponsor and her team for winning 3rd Place Overall at the Regional Academic Octathlon meet held April 27-28 at Alice High School. They also won 3rd place in Super Quiz. Individual awards were presented to: Anthony Pabillano - 3rd (Honors Essay), 3rd (Honors Social Studies), 2nd (Honors Art), 2nd (Honors Literature) and he tied for 1st place (Honors Math); Daniel Proske - 2nd (Honors Math); Lillian Reitz - 3rd (Scholastic Music); Doug Beard - 2nd (Scholastic Music); Weston Johnson - 3rd (Varsity Economics) and 2nd (Varsity Literature); Dylan Keyes - 2nd (Overall Honors Category), and tied for 1st place (Honors Math). A special thanks go to FBHS Decathlon members Thomas Cronnon, Andrew Acker and Kyle Huskin for coaching the students also.

| Dance Dance Revolution |
Dance Dance Revolution has arrived at Flour Bluff Junior High! The FBJH physical education department submitted a grant request and was awarded $3,300 from the Flour Bluff I.S.D. Foundation for Educational Excellence to purchase this innovative exercise program in the fall of 2006. As the "Grant Patrol" was out awarding three new grants on May 1, they stopped by the junior high gym to watch a demonstration by students and coaches. Several foundation board members and Superintendent Dr. Carbajal joined in the fun. "This is a great exercise program that allows students to exercise through dance moves and encourages them to maintain a healthy lifestyle", said Dr. Carbajal.

| FBJH Pentathlon |
 Congratulations to Ms. Korinne Caruso, Ms. Nikol Youngberg and Ms. Molly Parker, FBJH Pentathlon sponsors and their team for great representation of FBISD at the Regional Academic Pentathlon meet held April 27-28 at Alice High School. A total of eleven students participated on two teams. The 7th Grade Team tied for 2nd place in the Super Quiz. Those team members were: Jessica Westfall, Natalee Pequeno, Kyle Ginetti, Laine Korn, Allison Waldbeser, Kristina Hyde, Max Caruso and David Acker. Individual results were: Laine Korn - 2nd place (Scholastic Essay); Max Caruso - 3rd (Honors History) and 3rd (Honors Math); David Acker - 1st (Honors Math); Fransisco Brito-Aleman - 1st (Scholastic Math), 2nd (Scholastic Science) and 3rd (Scholastic History); and Nicholas Parker - 2nd (Honors Math) and 1st (Honors Science).

| Do the Write Thing |
 Congratulations to FBJH eighth grader Shelby Polasek for being chosen as a national finalist for the Nueces County Do the Write Thing Essay Contest sponsored locally by the County Justice Department. Five local schools participated and two national finalist where chosen to go to Washington, D.C. in July for a recognition banquet. Shelby was one of six finalist from FBJH. Also placing as finalists were: Ivan Moscorro, Trey Miles, Jonathan Guzman, Alex Marr and Sarah Shelton. Congratulations to all the winners and their English teachers Judy Allen, Susan Ludka, and Barbara Rinehart.

| Employee Wellness Walk-Run |
|
The Flour Bluff ISD Employee Wellness Program held their spring walk-run on Saturday, April 28 at Hornet Stadium. Over 50 employees participated either in the 2.5 mile walk or the 3.5 mile run. Results from the event were: Men's Run - Steve Guillot - 1st place; Women's Run: Kristine Holloway - 1st place and Cathy Blake - 2nd place; Men's walk - Todd Meurer -1st, Russell Thompson - 2nd, and Jesus Garcia - 3rd; Women's Walk - Laura Cazales -1st, Jackie Hodges - 2nd and Delmie Meurer - 3rd.

| Technology Olympics |
 Congratulations to FBHS student Ryan Garcia for his first place showing in the Braille Writing Level 1 competition at the Education Service Center's Technology Olympics on May 1, 2007. Ryan also placed third in the Magnifier competition.
Congratulations to his teacher/sponsor Ms. Candace Ryan also.

| Hornet Athletes Chosen for All-Star Games |
Five FBHS seniors have been selected to play in the Al-Amin Shriners All Star Football game to be held at Buc Stadium on May 19 at 7:00 p.m. Congratulations to the following Hornets: Ryan Flowers, John Egan, Ian Soderqvist, Mark Soto and Josh Brunemier.
Also selected to play in the TASCO Senior Showcase soccer game at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas on May 6 are soccer players Alyssa Fordyce and Jose Ordaz.
Congratulations to all these outstanding Hornets!

| Athletic Physicals |
The FBISD Athletic department has scheduled athletic physicals for all junior high and high school athletes on Wednesday, May 16 from 2-4 p.m. in the Varsity Gym. The cost will be $25. For more information you can log on to the athletic physical link on the district website.
