The Flour Bluff NJROTC proudly carry their trophies they won at the All Service Grand National Championship held in Daytona Beach, Florida on May 5-6, 2007.
| FB NJROTC Return Victorious from Grand Nationals |
| The Flour Bluff NJROTC traveled to Daytona Beach, Florida on May 4-6 to compete in the All Services Grand National Championship. This competition involved JROTC's from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. Over seventy schools participated with approximately one thousand students. The girls team, known as the Sea Hawks, won 1st place as the National Unarmed Drill Team. The boys team, known as the Sea Devils, won 2nd place as the National Armed Drill Team. There was a two point difference between the Sea Devils and the first place team, Francis Lewis High School, from Fresh Meadows, New York.
The Sea Hawks won the following awards: Inspection (2nd), Color Guard (1st), Unarmed Element Exhibition (1st), Unarmed Platoon Exhibition (3rd), & Regulation Drill (1st). The Sea Devils won the following awards: Inspection (1st), and Regulation Drill (3rd).
The team also won the Spirit Flag award. Commander's awards went to Leslie Cox (1st) and Daniel Samuelson (3rd). Also winning individual medals were Danielle Pletcher - 1st place in the knockout unarmed drill and Rafaelle Sheehan - 10th place in the knockout armed drill.

| HEB Lifetime Achievement Awards |
|
Congratulations go to Nancy York (FB High School) and Julia Williams (FB Elementary School) for being named as semi-finalist in the HEB Lifetime Achievement Awards. Each teacher received a gift certificate for $250 from HEB. Congratulations!

| Congressional Art Show |
|
Flour Bluff High School junior, C.J. Downey won best of show at the Congressional Art Show in Brownsville on May 5, 2007. Her work will hang for a year in the Cannon Tunnel at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. She also received three plane tickets from Southwest Airlines to attend the reception this summer in Washington, C.D., and a $5,000 scholarship to Savannah College of Art and Design. Congratulations, C.J.!

| U.I.L. State Meet Results |
Congratulations to Mr. David Rubac and his Number Sense Team for placing 1st at the state U.I.L. competition on May 5, 2007. The Calculator Team won 3rd place in state and the Mathematics Team won 4th place in state. Members of the teams were Andrew Acker (3rd Number Sense, 10th Calculator & 7th Mathematics), Dylan Keyes (5th Number Sense), Anthony Pabillano (4th Number Sense, 3rd Calculator & 7th Mathematics) and Austin Smith (7th Number Sense).
Also placing at the UIL State Meet was FBJH junior Chelsa Brown who came in 2nd in the Social Studies event. According the UIL website, Flour Bluff High School is ranked 5th in the state for 4-A UIL Academic Champions. Go Hornets!

| Hornet Marching Band |
The Flour Bluff Hornet Marching Band participated in the Buc Days Night Parade for the first time since 1991 on May 5. Band Director Victor Lara and his staff worked very closely with the Buccaneer Commission and city officials to make this possible. According to Mr. Lara, all the kids and adults had a great evening while representing our great school district. Go Hornets!

| Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year |
Congratulations to Flour Bluff Elementary teacher Mr. Michael Elbert for being named Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year. Representatives from the Flour Bluff Wal-Mart presented him with a cake, certificate and a check for $1,000 for the Elementary School on May 7. Mr. Elbert is a third and fourth grade resource teacher at Flour Bluff Elementary School.

| Hornet Soccer Awards |
The 2007 All-State and All-Region soccer teams have been announced by the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches, and Coach Chapman is proud to announce we have three Hornets representing FBHS on these teams.
Jose Ordaz - 2007 4-A All-State team as a forward
Justin Phillip - 2007 4-A All-Region IV team as a defender
Scott Haynes - 2007 4-A All-Region IV team as a forward
In addition to this, each of these athletes including Austin Marr were also named to the Academic All State Team. Go Hornets!

| Mother's Day Recipe Contest |
|
The Flour Bluff ISD Nutrition Department held a recipe contest to help celebrate their Mother's Day luncheon held on May 10 at the school cafeterias. Karen Marcum, mother of Meredith (Primary) and Casey (Intermediate) won with her Mom's Chicken Pot Pie recipe. She received a family pack of four tickets to a Hooks game. Congratulations, Mrs. Marcum!

| Chess Champions |
 Several students from the ECC, Primary and Elementary schools participated in the Grades Championship Tournament at Calallen Middle School on May 5. Individuals who placed at this tournament include: Kindergarten - Alex Wallet (perfect score) 1st place and Ammarie Wallet - 2nd place; Second Grade - Jonas Gallegos 5th place; Third Grade - Natanee Wallett 2nd place and Andrew Perez 4th place; Fourth Grade - Christian (Max) Castaneda 1st place.

| Hornet Spring Football Game |
|
The Flour Bluff Hornets will play a Maroon & White football game on Thursday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Hornet Stadium. The Hornets have been in spring training for a couple of weeks now and this will be a little preview of the 2007 football team. The community is invited to attend.
