NJROTC Claims Grand National Victory
Flour Bluff High School NJROTC has done it again! They returned from the All Service Grand National Championship on May 9 with their fourth consecutive win. This competition was held in Daytona, Florida where they competed against the best drill teams of the Navy, Army, Air Force and Marines. Congratulations to Commander Solis, Master Chief Holloway, SK1 Pitts and the ROTC cadets.


Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year
Congratulations Michelle Gagnon at the Early Childhood Center on being selected as the Flour Bluff Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year. Michelle was presented a grant for $1,000, a certificate and a Wal-Mart shirt in her classroom on May 9, 2006.


Wellness Spring Walk-Run Results
The Flour Bluff Wellness program held a Spring Walk-Run on Saturday, May 6 at Hornet Stadium with approximately 75 employees and/or spouses participating. The results were as follows: Men's Division WALK - Todd Meurer 1st, Tommy Mayman 2nd, and Gary Moody 3rd; RUN - Dave Smith 1st, Joel Trudeau 2nd, and Scott Trudeau 3rd; Women's Division WALK - Laura Cazalas 1st, Jackie Hodges 2nd and Liz Lee 3rd; RUN - Stacie Morgan 1st, Julia Williams, 2nd and Kathy Blake 3rd. Congratulations to everyone who came out on a Saturday morning and participated.


All Star Games
The Texas High School Coaches Association has announced the Division East games to be played May 15-20. Several FB coaches and athletes have been selected to participate as coaches and players.

Darrell Andrus has been selected to coach the football game which will be played May 20 @ 7 p.m. at Buc Stadium. The roster will include Hornet football players Alex Darley, Matt Smith, Kevin McColskey, Joe Brunemeier and Andre Fenwick.

Joni Luna has been selected to coach the volleyball game which will be played May 15 @ 7 p.m. at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The roster will include Hornet volleyball players Cherish Ruddick, Adina Gray, Chelsea Greer and Rachel Schuelka.

James McMinn has been selected to coach the girls' basketball game which will be May 20 @ 11 a.m. at Ray High School. The roster will include Hornet basketball players Cherish Ruddick and Alysse Davis.

Bobby Jones has been selected to coach the boys' basketball game which will be May 20 @ 12:30 p.m. at Ray High School. The roster will include Hornet basketball players Alex Horne and Alex Darley.



Maroon & White Football Games
The 1st Annual Maroon & White Football Games will be played Tuesday, May 16 and Wednesday, May 17 at Hornet Stadium. Game time will be 11:40 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. during 4th period. The community and staff is invited to attend.


Janet F. Harte Library Celebration
The City of Corpus Christi and Flour Bluff I.S.D. will be celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Janet F. Harte Public and High School Library on Sunday, May 21 @ 7 p.m. An art exhibit featuring Flour Bluff alumnus Christopher Stroop will be in the Noel McArdle Gallery of the library.


Education Foundation Grant Awards
The Flour Bluff ISD Foundation for Educational Excellence, Inc. surprised six teachers and two campuses at FBISD today when they awarded more than $20,000 in teacher and campus grants.

Campus grants were awarded to the following: FBISD High School Theater Arts and Choir department was awarded $3,850 to help produce the musical "Annie" in 2006-07; FBISD Primary School was awarded $3,836 to purchase age appropriate science supplies to develop a hands-on-science curriculum.

Teacher grants were awarded to the following: Karen Wohlschlegel, FB Elementary teacher was awarded $2,618 to purchase four Center Stage Math kits; Laura Dobbins and Crystal Lindsay, both FB Elementary teachers were awarded $2,000 to purchase a math library to integrate math and literature through small group, whole instruction or centers; Joye Beard, FBHS teacher was awarded $3,000 to purchase supplies and books to be used during a 4 week mentoring camp for struggling readers as part of the Ready, Set, Teach class; Elizabeth Lee, FB Primary teacher was awarded $2,100 to purchase Chess boards and supplies for classroom math and critical thinking skills; and Ken Stewart, FBHS teacher was awarded $2,773 to purchase Rascal Robotics Sets.
