Intermediate School Receives Maps
Owen Hopkins, President of the Corpus Christi Geological Society, presented the Flour Bluff Intermediate School with several framed maps on Thursday, October 12, 2006. The society made this donation in conjunction with the Don Boyd Continuing Education Fund sponsored by the Society. The Society partners with the Intermediate School to bring in speakers to discuss geological matters with the students.


Janet F. Harte Library Holds Book Sale
The Flour Bluff/Padre Island Library Support Group is sponsoring a used book sale at the FBHS/Janet F. Harte Public Library from October 10 through October 22, 2006 in the meeting room of the library. Proceeds will help purchase books and media for the library. For more information you can contact Barbara Serota, FBHS Librarian at 694-9161.


FBHS Therapeutic Volunteers Participate in Horse Show
On Saturday, October 14, several Flour Bluff High School students will volunteer at the 4H Horse Show in Robstown assisting eight therapeutic riders in their first horse show. The student volunteers are members of FBHS clubs and organizations working with FBHS Spanish teacher Joanne Montesano at the Glenoak Therapeutic Riding Center.


FBISD Recognizes Auxiliary Staff
Flour Bluff I.S.D. will recognize Monday, October 16 as "Maintenance and Transportation Day" in the district. The Administration takes this opportunity to thank all maintenance, custodian and transportation employees for their dedication and support to students and staff on a daily basis. Their efforts in keeping our buildings and grounds clean and neat, and getting our students to and from school safe everyday is very much appreciated.


CCA Awards Scholarship to FBHS Student
Jake Brandt, a freshman at Flour Bluff University Preparatory High School Program, was awarded a $20,000 scholarship sponsored by the CCA Texas Star Teens Scholarship Trout Division. The Coastal Conservation Association sponsored the fishing tournament in which Jake won the Middle Coast Division for his 7 lb. 5 oz. trout.


Caller-Times South Texas Distinguished Scholars
Two Flour Bluff High School students have been named 2006 South Texas Distinguished Scholars by the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. Carissa Dees was selected in the Student Athlete category and Roxie Weems was selected in the Service and Leadership category. Both students will receive a $350 scholarship at a special recognition luncheon scheduled for October 21 at the Solomon Ortiz Center.


NJROTC Color Guard Sweeps Competition
The Flour Bluff High School NJROTC unit was victorious last week at the Edison High School Drill Meet in San Antonio. Both the male and female color guard teams made perfect scores. The junior varsity color guard came in second only to FBHS varsity color guard. Overall the NJROTC unit won the competition. This is the second competition so far this year and they won both. According to Commander Solis, the unit has not lost a meet in over two years.
