FBHS Guidance Office Sponsors College Day
Flour Bluff High School juniors and seniors were treated to a special morning at the varsity gym on October 18th as the organization TARCAO (Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars & Admissions Office) sponsored a College Day Fair for students. Over 70 college recruiters from in and out of Texas set up booths in the gym, passing out information and brochures to students seeking college information.


FBJH Choir Members Selected to All-Regional Choir
Flour Bluff Junior High School choir students auditioned at the TMEA Region XIV All-Region Choir Contest held at Calallen High School on October 14. Hundreds of students auditioned per section and only 25 per section were named as members of the choir. FBJH students selected were: Joan Altenburg (soprano2), LeAnn Bishop (soprano 2), Shelby East (soprano2), Casey Hurt (soprano2), Barbara Keola (soprano1), Alexis Spaugh (soprano2), Nathan Spencer (soprano2), and Aliah Veith (soprano1). These students will be singing in the TMEA Region XIV Junior High/Middle School Choir concert on Saturday, November 11 at Rockport-Fulton High School.


Chess Tournament Results
Students from FB Primary through FB High School participated in the Wynne Seale Chess tournament last week-end and results were as follows:

Primary Section (grades K-3)The Primary School won a tie breaker with Windsor Park to take 1st place.
Individual places at the Primary: Natenee Wallett (1st), Sarah Muir (9), Alex Wallett (10), Andrew Perez (11), Ryan Breen (13), Jonas Gallegos (15), Ammarie Wallett (17).
Individual places at the Elementary: Max Christian Castaneda (14)
Individual places at the Junior High: Robert Muir (1), Kyle Breen (21).
Individual places at the High School: Kaitlyn McClymont (1)



Students of the Month
The first six weeks' winners of the Secondary Student of the Month program were recognized Thursday, October 19. First National Bank of Flour Bluff has sponsored the program at the junior high and high school for the past several years. Rene Pena, FNB Branch Manager, was on hand to make the presentations to James Polasek and Alexandria Marr from the junior high and Errond Williams and Sophie Warren from the high school. Each student received a certificate of recognition and a $25 gift card from Padre Staples Mall.


United Way Campaign
Flour Bluff I.S.D. kicked off the United Way Campaign with a special luncheon and presentation titled "Let the Giving Begin" for campus and department United Way liaisons on October 13. The campaign will start October 16 and run through October 27. Employees helped raise over $22,000 during last year's campaign. Bryan Krnavek, FBISD United Way Chairperson, is hoping to meet that goal or exceed it this year.


BMX Bike Show Comes to Junior High

A select group of students at the Flour Bluff Junior High were treated to a special BMX Bike Show on October 19 as a reward from the FBJH PTA. The PTA sponsored a fundraiser that involved selling magazines. Each student that sold at least four magazines were invited to the special presentation at the junior high gym. Students who sold fifteen or more magazines were treated to lunch with the BMX performers and had front row seats for the demonstration. According to Danny Glover, FBJH Principal, the PTA was able to raise over $5,000 with this fundraiser.



Red Ribbon Week Celebrated District-Wide
Flour Bluff I.S.D. will celebrate Red Ribbon Week district-wide October 23-27. Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign to encourage healthy lifestyles and to encourage students to lead drug free lives. Special events district wide include: Wear Red Day on Wednesday, October 25, door decorating contest; poster contest; essay contest; and drug-free presentations and films at various grade levels. A complete list of Red Ribbon Activities can be found on the district web site.
