Loss Preventative Award

Frank Luna, representing Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) visited FBISD on December 13 to deliver an external defibrillator (AED) to district officials as part of a Loss Preventative Award from the Risk Management Fund. This is the second AED to have in place at FBISD, and the district has applied for a grant to purchase ten more for the upcoming year.

Recently the University Interscholastic League mandated that all Texas public high schools that are UIL members obtain at least one AED for their campuses and athletic events before the beginning of the 2007-08 school year.



FBHS Decathlon Team Wins Meet
Congratulations to the Flour Bluff High School Academic Decathlon Team. They won first place at the San Antonio Holmes Decathlon Meet held December 8-9 with over thirty teams from fifteen high schools competing.

Individual results were: Kyle Huskin won 1st in art and super quiz, 2nd in music, 4th in social science, 6th in literature and mathematics, and 5th place overall; Anthony Pabillano won 1st in mathematics, 2nd in literature, 4th in super quiz and 5th in art; Thomas Cronnon won 1st in essay, speech, and art, 2nd in mathematics and economics, 4th in interview and literature, 6th in super quiz, and 2nd overall; Lisa Lawson won 1st in music, 2nd in mathematics, 3rd in art and super quiz, 5th in social science and interview, 6th in literature, and 5th overall; Wes Gaddie won 1st in interview, literature, and art, 3rd in economics, 4th in social science, 5th in essay, 6th in super quiz, mathematics, and speech and 1st overall; Ariel Moore won 3rd in speech and art and 6th in interview and super quiz. Decathlon sponsors are Beth Huckabee and David Rubac.



High School Debate Team Wins Second Place
Teysha Doughtery and Lauren Ainsley, members of the FBHS Debate Team, won second place in the novice division at the Port Aransas UIL Debate Tournament on December 1. Congratulations to these students and their sponsor Vicki Lugo.


Waffle Breakfast Fundraiser
The FBHS Baseball team will be sponsoring their annual waffle breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, January 20, 2007, from 7 - 10 a.m. at the high school cafetorium. Tickets may be purchased from any Hornet baseball player or Coach Helms in room 602 at the high school. It's "all you can eat" for $5.00. What a deal!


AIMS Invitational Mathematics Meet
Flour Bluff Elementary students competed and placed 2nd place in the AIMS Invitational Mathematics Meet held December 7 at Texas A&M University in Kingsville. The team also won 1st place in number sense (3rd grade), 2nd place in number sense (4th grade) and 3rd place in general math (4th grade). Individual results were: 3rd grade - Cory Kyle 2nd in number sense, Chris Cureton 4th in number sense, and Caleb Ferguson 6th in number sense; 4th grade - Rachel Johnstone 3rd in number sense, Devon Brandt 7th in number sense, Dru Wen 10th in number sense, Joshua Rider 2nd in general math, Caroline Ellis 8th in general math and Ryan Stanley 10th in general math. Karen Sharp and Amy Boyd are team sponsors.


12 Spot Coming to Junior High

The FBISD Student Nutrition Department will be offering a new feature at the FBJH cafeteria beginning January 2007. The 12 Spot Menu is all about wild colors, extreme flavors, and cool, off-the-wall names - just what middle school students are looking for. Some of the new menu items will include: "Meatball Bombers", "Big-as-Your-Head Beef Burrito", "The Inside-Outer", "The Crispy Rancher", "Beef-a-yaki", "Apple Soursauce", and "Crazy Chicken Club". A special grand opening is being planned for January 18 from 6-7 p.m. at the Junior High Cafeteria.



FBHS Athletes Receive District Accolades
Flour Bluff Hornet athletes in tennis, volleyball and football received accolades in their respective sports recently as All District Teams were announced recently from the District 4-A committees. Twenty four football players and eleven volleyball players will be recognized for their district achievements at the Fall Sports Award Banquet on December 18. Fifteen tennis players will be recognized at the Spring Sports Award Banquet for their team tennis achievements. A complete list of those students are available on the district website.
