Flour Bluff NJROTC Cadets to Attend Naval Academy Seminar
Flour Bluff High School NJROTC cadets Tommy Anderson, Tyler Grant and Valerie Dimalanta have secured a spot at the Naval Academy’s week-long summer program in Annapolis, MD. The program introduces rising seniors to the academy through a regimen of academics, physical training, intramural sports, sailing and seamanship, as well as leadership training and social activities. Designated by the U.S. Naval Academy’s Office of Admissions, the program gives interested students a taste of the challenges and benefits of a Naval Academy education. “To have three students from the same school attend is exceptional” says Cmdr. Solis, FBHS NJROTC. “The fact that they were selected says a lot about the standard of excellence these kids have set for themselves.”

The Naval Academy offers three, one-week summer sessions, with 600 paticipants each week for a total of 1800 students per summer from across the nation. To qualify you must go through a selection process listing grades, civic involvement, etc. and compete with others who apply. This is also an opportunity for the Academy to look at these kids to see if they are the right material for the academy and the same time let’s the kids know what they are getting into if they do get selected to the Academy. Approximately 35% of students participating in the summer session will get appointments to the Academy.
