James McMinn, head girls basketball coach of Flour Bluff High School, has been named as finalist for the position of Athletic Director and Darrell Andrus, defensive coordinator, has been named as finalist for the position of Head Football Coach of Flour Bluff High School. “Flour Bluff is very happy and excited to have these two great gentlemen lead our student athletes in our successful athletic program” says Julie Carbajal, Superintendent. The school board will take action on these appointments at a June 16, 2005 meeting.
Coach McMinn has served the District since 1993 coaching girls basketball, volleyball and golf, and has been the Assistant Athletic Director for the past 2 years. He has a very successful record with the girls basketball program and will continue to serve as head coach for the girls basketball team. McMinn is a graduate of Corpus Christi State University and has 18 years coaching experience. His wife, Amy, teaches at Flour Bluff Elementary and they have two children, Nicole, 9, and Ryan, 18 months. When asked about his new role as Athletic Director McMinn states “I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the athletic program in its’ continued successes. Flour Bluff has an excellent coaching staff and great young athletes.”
Coach Andrus has served the District since 1998 coaching both boys basketball and football. Last year he served as defensive coordinator for the varsity football team and helped take them to the playoffs for the second time in the past several years. Andrus is a graduate of Texas A&M University in Kingsville and has 7 years coaching experience, all at Flour Bluff High School. His wife Faith is a teacher at Flour Bluff Junior High and they have one son, Cole, who is 2 years old. “I am very excited about the opportunity to be head football coach for the Hornets” says Andrus. “We have started a tradition in the football program and I’m looking forward to continued success with a great bunch of young men and an excellent coaching staff.”
