President to Address Students

President Obama has announced he will address school children, on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, about the importance of education. The address will be broadcast live on the White House website at www.whitehouse.gov and C-SPAN at 12:00 pm EDT. We anticipate the text of the message will be posted on the website on Monday, September 7, 2009.

According to information provided by the U.S. Department of Education, the President will “challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning.”

September 8 is a regularly scheduled instructional day for all Flour Bluff Independent School District (FBISD) students. While FBISD has chosen not to view the live broadcast, the District is informing students and staff of the national address. The District is planning to record the speech and may make it available in the future as an instructional resource to be used in classes as it is deemed appropriate within the District’s curriculum. Parents and students may also access details from the U.S. Department of Education website at www.ed.gov.
