| Science Teacher Named as Teacher of the Year State Finalist | |||
|
Beth Huckabee, biology teacher at Flour Bluff High School was named as the Texas Education Agency Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year Finalist. Mrs. Huckabee was recently named Regional Secondary Teacher of the Year for Region II for 2010-2011. "We are very excited to have one of our teachers be recognized at the state level", says Julie Carbajal, Superintendent. "Mrs. Huckabee is an outstanding science teacher who gives students a "hands-on" classroom experience." Huckabee's science classes include Regular and Dual Credit Anatomy & Physiology, AP and Dual Credit Biology, and Humanities. Her classes incorporates a science lab which provides students a hands-on approach to learning. Her classroom environment prepares students for college, career and life. Graduated students regularly return to thank Mrs. Huckabee for the learning experiences they received under her guidance. Huckabee has been the Decathlon and Octhalon Academic coach for many years at Flour Bluff High School. The teams routinely go to the district, regional and state level competitions. She also coaches the KEDT-TV Challenge Team, is the UIL Science Team Sponsor, TMSCA (Texas Math & Science Coaches Association) Team Sponsor, and is the Science Department Chair. Huckabee was named Secondary Teacher of the Year at Flour Bluff I.S.D. in May 2010 and advanced to the regional level at the Education Service Center Region II. She was selected as one of 20 secondary teachers state-wide to advance to the state level. She has been named as one of three state finalist for the Secondary Teacher of the Year which will be announced October 15 in Austin by the Texas Education Agency. |
